Members, veterans from all eras, and supporters all representing American Women Veterans will be marching in the November 11, 2010 Veteran’s Day Parade in New York City. This will be AWV’s second year participating with pride in this event.  Come out and join AWV in NYC!

“Last year, although a small group, we walked with pride in NYC’s historic parade honoring our veterans from all branches and eras of service. A woman broke through the barricade and ran up to our group. One volunteer put an AWV signature red scarf around her neck and another handed her an American flag. With a smile and look of determination, she squared her shoulders, lifted her chin and said one word, “Finally.” A veteran of the Vietnam Era, she had finally found a group that celebrated the legacy of all servicewomen and veterans. In a time when women were not always welcome in the military, she was one of the trailblazers.

Please bring your friends and families and join us as we march in honor of the legacy of the women who have and currently serve and for those that will follow in our footsteps.”

Dress: It’s AWV tradition to wear black sweaters/coats and red scarves/accessories. It gets very cold so please dress accordingly!

Please plan on joining us for the Post-Parade Party; families welcome! We will post more information as soon as it becomes available. Also, AWV’s pre-parade meetup destination is to be announced.

This year’s commemoration will feature special recognition of the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War. In addition, it will once again honor the men and women of our currently serving armed forces, with the United States Air Force providing this year’s lead elements.

Please RSVP, ask questions or volunteer to help organize at AWV’s Facebook event page.
