VA Pledge to Women Veterans on Women’s Equality Day

Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki pledged today on Women’s Equality Day that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will work to ensure the nation upholds its obligation to meet the needs of our Veterans – including women Veterans.

Female veterans eager to encourage local support as VFW members

“The VFW is a combat veterans organization. In order to be eligible for the VFW you would have had to serve in harm’s way and receive at least an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal or receive hostile fire or imminent danger pay,” Funk said. “So female service members were not used very often in combat areas until the later part of Desert Storm, and then heavily in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
